Hi John
we may have met some years ago when my wife Maggie Alexander and I were members of the Rotary Club of North Ryde and Ian Scott was DG. We have now moved on and are members of the Rotary Club of Gold Coast. But we are also heavily involved in ROMAC. I am the new Operations Director and my query relates to insurance of ROMAC volunteers.
Last year, our treasurer obtained some advice ( allegedly from AEON) which was that the patients and their accompanying carers were not covered by Rotary’s Insurance Policy. I found that odd given that we insure Rotary Youth Exchange students who also come to Australia for defined period. Can you confirm that ROMAC patients and carers are not covered.
Secondly, there is confusion about how ROMAC volunteers (Rotarians or non-Rotarians) may be covered by the existing Rotary insurance policy as they go about their duties on ROMAC’s behalf. Such duties would include, for example, driving patients to appointments or on excursions or driving to Rotary Clubs to give presentations. Is it simply a matter of providing details to the relevant District Insurance Officer and if so, does this need to occur for every instance of ROMAC activity or would this only be required for travel beyond a certain distance from their normal abode?
Apologies if I am asking questions that have been asked before but there is no clear understanding at Board level at the moment so I would appreciate any guidance you can provide.
