Bob Morris and I had quite productive telephone conversations. Bob is the P-E for the RC of Rowville-Lysterfield in the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne. The Club’s primary community project is provided through its Cultural Food Van Project which feeds around 50 families per week. The homeless numbers within the local community remain largely unseen, and the RCR-L’s challenge is consequently gaining Local Community Engagement, outside of Rotary. There are four other Rotary Clubs within the general area, but they each remain relatively isolated. The club has a history of supporting many international projects over the years through avenues such as Shelter Box, whilst remaining active in the Youth Exchange arena. The Club has also established an annual scholarship program at Chisholm Institute to acknowledge a local worthy apprentice, and in partnership with other Rotary Clubs in Knox, have purchased a Community Policing Car for Victoria Police.
As can be readily determined the RC of Rowville-Lysterfield is very active in its local community.
During our conversations I discovered Bob is attending the “Fit for Purpose” weekend in Sydney commencing tomorrow, and I have therefore co-ordinated a get-together at the venue between Bob and our RCCS Membership Chair Jacinta Hoare, at which I feel certain there will be a further exchange of relevant information.
Bob & I talked in mainly general terms about what his club, along with other clubs such as mine, and clubs in D9560 can, and are doing, to raise the profile of Rotary. Whilst I’m not exactly sure how much of a definitive help I was to Bob, he subsequently sent me a kind email note which I take the liberty of attaching to this internal Message.
“Hi David – Thanks for your time and generous sharing of knowledge and opinion.
Despite your reservation of being labelled an expert, I found it stimulating and very informative as we approach the challenge of increasing our local community involvement.
Cheers Bob

The above wording relates to the outlined criteria 1-4, and in response to 5. I would rate myself a “3” although Bob’s subsequent email might suggest he would rate my input higher.
In regard to Item 6, I believe every selected Specialist should be provided with the opportunity to have access to centralised training, to better standardise the information which is being provided to Rotarians who elect to seek advice from the Specialist Hub. Such training does not have to occur in person, as it could be provided on-line.
Hi David,
I notice the status of your ticket is still open. If you have addressed the enquiry can you please click on the ‘Resolve Ticket’ button and make some notes to assist the pilot in any areas we can improve.
1. Briefly describe the enquiry.
2. What information did you provide to the enquirer?
3. Do you feel you were able to answer the question adequately?
4. Did you require assistance or refer the enquiry to someone else? If so, where did you seek assistance or who did you refer the enquiry to?
5. How would you rate your ability to adequately respond to this enquiry on a scale of 1-5. (One being not able to respond to 5 completely satisfied with the response).
6. As a Rotary Specialist do you require any additional support? If, yes, please provide more details.
Many thanks,
Tania Broadbent
